The Yarn Shop is pleased to offer custom patterns and custom sweater design. Perhaps you have an idea of a garment you'd like to knit, but you can't find a pattern. Or you've found a pattern, but you want to adapt it to a different yarn or to your particular body. Call to schedule an appointment, bring your ideas in to The Yarn Shop, and we'll design a pattern just for you.


Custom design requires a bit of planning and a bit of advance knitting.

Your pattern or idea
Even if you're not sure of all the details, think about the sweater style (cardigan, shell...), the type of sleeves, neckline, and trims you'd like.

A gauge swatch
With the yarn and stitch pattern (seed, slip stitch, lace...) you want for your garment, create a traditional 4″ gauge swatch. If you need some help, you can create your swatch after an initial consultation.


Once we know your yarn and gauge, we'll take your measurements and discuss your options, then move to creating your custom pattern —
• We'll confirm your gauge and develop the design
• We'll edit the instructions for clarity — a 45-60 minute process
• We'll review the pattern with you and get you off and running
